Reflexology has been around for a long time. The earliest documentation of reflexology was in China over 5000 years ago. Traditional Chinese Medicine attributes good health to the free flow of qi energy though the body along energy channels or meridians which begin and extend down to the feet and hands. The feet and hands then can be manipulated to ensure a well balanced flow through pressure on vital points.
The concept of reflexology as a scientific therapy in western medicine began in the 19th century and is based on research into the nervous system. Their discovery was that one can influence health and wellbeing through reflex actions. Through manipulation of these reflex points on the feet (and/or hands), the body will naturally shift into a relaxed state and create an internal environment in which healing can occur.
Reflexology is a complimentary therapy that can help bring about a deep state of relaxation and initiate the body’s own healing process. It can improve circulation, boost the immune system, stimulate the body’s own healing process and help return the body to a state of balance and wellbeing.
Reflexology does not cure disease nor do reflexologists practice medicine or diagnose disorders. It does not replace medical treatment however it is a nice complement to other therapies and medical treatments.
I will be applying gentle pressure to points on the feet that represent and mirror organs, bones and glands within the body. Each treatment will be specific to your needs.
People choose reflexology when they are experiencing:
— high levels of stress, resulting in sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, etc.’
— pain in the feet and/or hands from overuse, arthritis, plantar fasciitis, etc.
— less than optimal functioning of a body system manifesting as respiratory allergies, digestive problems, diabetes, reproductive issues, cancer, inflammatory conditions, etc.
Whether you choose to receive reflexology because your feet hurt, or to enjoy an increase in well-being of your overall health, most find that reflexology is a great way to relax, rejuvenate and restore.
